Welcome!

Welcome to the first ever Settlement Music School blog. The purpose of this blog is to allow you – our students, parents, contributors, faculty, and staff – to help shape Settlement Music School’s presence on the web. We need your comments and ideas!

What kinds of information are important to you?
Do you enjoy reading blogs? If so, what topics do you enjoy?
Would a list of upcoming events and review of events be helpful?
Interviews with faculty or alumni?
A look inside what makes Settlement Music School run?
Rehearsal tips or helpful hints from faculty?
How can Settlement Music School (on the web) become a “cultural portal” or reference source for you?
What would you like to see on the School’s web site (www.smsmusic.org)?

Please let us know what you think! We look forward to hearing from you.

  1. I think it might make more sense for the school to publish the blog on their own website, rather than using an outside host. Good luck with your endeavor.

  2. Great idea!

I don't mind it that you use blogspot. It's technically easier and free.

As to what's useful information, I would like to get a better idea of what's happening inside the school. My daughter is currently attending a music workshop but other than dropping her off and picking her up I have no idea what's happening during the workshop.

Also, I would be interested in discussions on methodologies and pedagogy. I saw you advertise certain methodologies that are controversial. I'd like to know more about the rationale of your choices and also to see what other people think too.

    Thanks!

  4. This is a great idea! I do not think it is a problem that you are using blogspot. I use it myself because it is so easy to use, and free. It would be a good idea to link to here from your main website so people can find it.

I am an adult student at Settlement. I like all the ideas you listed. I think it would also be nice to have reviews or listings for local music events of interest, and maybe reviews of new music releases, music-related books, articles, etc.

  5. I think it would be fun to hear what the alumni are up to now, on a regular basis. Also, having been through the college/conservatory application process recently, a section dedicated to that would be very valuable.

  6. I think it would be easier for parents to access the blog if you had wireless internet for them at the branches. Some parent sit there for 3-4 hours straight. As a parent, I would be interested in information on the staff as well as the ideas mentioned in your email.

  7. As a parent I concur that wireless internet at the branches would be wonderful. As would a few more comfortable chairs and better lighting. All of the ideas above mentioned sound interesting.

  8. I am an adult student at Settlement.

I agree that using blogspot is much easier and free and as like Jen already said it would be a great idea to link to here from your main website so people can find it.

I would also suggest that the blog promotes the possibility of students to meet and play together as well as collaborating with the blog with their own material.
